RPO I.e. Renewable purchase obligation, a obligation for each discom to purchase a certain percentage of solar and non- solar power to promote renewable energy and with each year this percentage increase as per Commission or Govt guidelines. Since this concept was introduced in the sector most of the discoms have failed to reach the target and requested respective Commission to reduce the targets and no penalty should be imposed. It is surprising to note that Karnataka govt sent a letter to Central govt to allow discom to purchase more renewable power than the target RPO and RPO target must be seen as minimum requirement instead of maximum target
